Lap Dancing: Four Foot Rule Postponed

LAP DANCING

Lap dancing is permitted for at least another month at Seattle's four strip clubs. A city council committee postponed action on a proposed ordinance to prevent dancers from touching customers. The dancers say the regulations proposed by Mayor Greg Nickels would put them out of business, since they are independent contractors who work for tips.

Please send emails as to why you think the four foot lap dance rule is an unfair political tactic and how it could affect individuals, community and small business owners if a handful of licensed exotic dancers did not entertain in a gentlemens club in the city of Seattle.

The proposed changes:

-It would require exotic dancers performing off stage to be clothed during and remain at least four feet away from any patron during a lap dance. The current code doesn’t regulate lap dance distance.

-Gentlemens club managers and operators would be held responsible for any violations of the code. Currently, only exotic dancers are held accountable.

-An owner of a gentlemens club would be required to meet increased lighting standards so that all areas of the club are clearly visible.

-Tips for exotic dancers must be placed in a container provided by the club and cannot be given directly to the performer.

There are currently 554 exotic dancers that are licensed in the city of Seattle with an average of 722 each year, and 20 licensed managers with an average of 32 since 2000.

This is not including the DJ's, waitresses, bartenders, doormen, valets, and seamstresses who may be put out of work.

Small business owners who depend on the four Seattle lap dance clubs to use their services could be effected including: Accountants, attorneys, business consultants, beverage distributors, cleaning services, printing facilities, cab drivers, etc. and any other business you can think of that offers supplies and services to small businesses or night club.

Other businesses that would be effected in a number of areas include: Independent day cares, hair, nail and tanning salons, massage and sports injury therapists, chiropractors, retailers who specialize and cater to specific types of club wear, and any other business you can think of that is included in a weekly or bi weekly basis for the upkeep for exotic dancers in the adult entertainment business.

Other individuals and businesses that would be effected: Au pairs, nannies and babysitters, tutors, cab drivers, promoters, independent gas stations, independent convenient stores, independent bars night clubs and restaurants near a gentlemens club.

Individuals that work in a gentlemens club may very well take away work from others who also really need their jobs and who choose not to work in adult entertainment.
